Dear Christine:
Thank you so much for the fabulous Hip-Hat. My daughter Ashley was diagnosed
with Rhabdomayo Sarcoma 18 months ago. We were all very much in shock and quite
scared. We were scared about so many things, but for Ansley losing her hair was
the worst. Having the coolest, longest hair (hip-hair) in her class made it a
lot more bearable. Ashley has worn her hip-hair with all of her hats every
place she goes, and has become the unofficial hip-hat model for the Mary-Bridge
Oncology clinic in Tacoma, WA.
We have been able to style the hair in so many ways. Her favorite way to wear it
is with teeny-tiny braids and a “do-rag” — very hip! Ashley has grown so
accustomed to wearing and being a kid in her hip-hat that she decided to get a
hair cut. We took it to our family stylist and she gave it some highlights and
trimmed off several inches. Now Ansley has a whole new look!
We are happy to report that Ashley’s treatment is over and she is doing quite
well, but she continues to were her hip-hat and will until her hair grows back.
Thank you so much for minimizing the self-consciousness and loss of femininity
that Ashley was experiencing in such a kid-friendly way. We are very grateful
that you have this great talent and are willing to share it with such sick
children.
Sincerely,
C.M.
